Rekindling an Ancient Fire and Reawakening an old Ceremony with Andreas Kornevall

On Sunday 28th, we’re holding a day of Norse mythology, magic, ceremony and practice with Andreas Kornevall.

This will be a wonderful, informative and joyful day for anyone who has an interest in runes, alchemy, symbolism, Norse culture.

Storytelling and myth will be essential components in our explorations; during the day, we will hear fairytales and myths from the Scandinavian lore, performed with traditional lyres and flutes.

Andreas will guide us through practical psycho-magical exercises such as song making (Galder) and writing in poetic metres. We will develop an oracular language and ask: how do we access it, how can it help us today?

The dragon is a symbol for merging the underworld and upper-world. As the serpent descends into dark, difficult places to look for soul, the golden eagle ascends towards illumination to reveal spirit. When the serpent and golden eagle alchemically merge - the wisdom of the dragon is born.  We will design a seventh-fold labyrinth together (representing the dragon) and through a guided ceremony we will walk the serpentine shapes and explore what this reconciliation means in practice, examining the importance of psychological and spiritual integration.  This sacred labyrinth that we will build together will stay in the garden afterwards to benefit the land and those who visit.

We will reawaken King Readwald’s old ceremony called the Acerbot, which is an ancestral land healing ritual from the 7th century, which will be adapted for today.

All are welcome to come along regardless of experience, and cultural or spiritual background: the spirit is warm and always enthusiastically inclusive.

The aim of the course is for you to find a gift through the practice that you can bring back to your own life and community. You will learn to construct a seven fold labyrinth where you live and to use it for ceremonial purposes.

Andreas Kornevall

Andreas Kornevall is an author, storyteller and ecological activist. He grew up in South America, Sweden and Switzerland, and now directs the Earth Restoration Service charity. In response to the sixth mass extinction, he was the catalyst behind the Life Cairn movement: memorials for species rendered extinct at human hands. As a storyteller, he works with old myths and fairytales which shine a torch light on life’s journey; his stories tend to gravitate around the Norse material which have led him to lecture and perform in universities and other educational centres. He is also a prize-winning author, whose work has been published in magazines such as Resurgence, The Ecologist, Permaculture magazine and in the Dark Mountain series. He is a member of the 'Forn Sed' (Old Customs Association) in Sweden which works closely with ancient Norse culture, traditions and spirituality, unearthing old legends, forgotten folklore and endangered Norse languages.

Through his charity he has planted over 200 woodlands in the United Kingdom and he has recently been voted by the University of Southern California as one of their 100 spiritual exemplars.
